I have really come to love sour beers.  This one was a surprise and an enjoyable one at that.  Hailing from Belgium, Petrus aged Ale is aged in oak casks for 16 months before it is released to the world.  Out of the bottle this one pours a cloudy honey color with a head that dissipates quickly as it warms.  The scent is strong sour, fruity, and funky.  There is just a hint of the oak cask aging on the nose.

The taste is intensely sour on the tongue.  There is a fair degree of acidity that wages war with sweet fruitiness and funkiness.  On the finish there is little bitterness, though the sour/sweet war does give way to the oak cask aging.

This beer is a great one to sip on.  Each taste brings forward new nuances.
