Yards Cicada Indigenous Ale is a most interesting beer. It is part of the 750ml series and is available in September-October. It is listed as a Belgian Ale by yards brewery but I was actually surprised to find that this malt forward beer had this style listing.
Out of the bottle it pours a clear deep amber with an orange tinge. The scent is very malty and sweet with some citrus notes.
Taste wise is no surprise based on the scent. It hits the palette with a flood of malty caramel sweetness. There is a citrus floral component in the flavor and it finishes with a subdued bitter flourish.
All in all this is really well balanced. It doesn’t quite seem to be on the mark for the style with its highly malt forward character but it is quite enjoyable. Coming in at 8.5% ABV it packs quite a bit of punch and a 750M bottle can be the part of an enjoyable evening.
I would rate this beer higher except for the style confusion.
